Hi All
Basically I know you can buy various spice blends, from curry powder (of varying heat) to Moroccan Tagine Mix, Ras El Hanout Mix, etc
To these do you need to anything else, such as Salt? or do they have salt added to them?
ThanksSpice Blends-Do you need to add salt etc?
Read the ingredient list on the spice blend, several include salt but some of the ones you listed definitely do not.
I love and use many spices especially hot ones. I use a mixture of many spices. I do not in any way use salt. I am a very healthy 80 old going on 81 and I stopped using salt and sugar many years ago.
I use honey in place of sugar in my coffee, and salt on an ear of corn. Of course sugar and salt are used in ready prepared food so I do eat some of them.
Experiment with different mixtures of spices. You will get excited over the various tastes you will get.
To me at my age spices are "The Spice of Life". Good luck.Spice Blends-Do you need to add salt etc?
Salt is not a spice or something that you need to add to cooking early, but it is probably best to cook the dish without the salt and then taste your dish at the end and if it needs salt then add it to your cooking.
Most people add salt at the start of the cooking but its ok to add it at the end.
Most spice blends have the salt already added into them and will list salt as an ingredient on the label if it has been included in the mix. If the mix doesn't have a label then you could always taste a little of it and should be able to tell.
The blends you mention do not have salt in them. To be absolutely certain, read the ingredients on the label.
