Quincy Market/Fanueil Hall is an outdoor mall with a very large and diverse food court. The Hall itself is quite historic. There are usually musicians or acrobats out front. It's on The Freedom Trail, a red line in the pavement that links the most important historical sites together.

The water shuttle from Long Wharf to the Charlestown Navy Yard is a really beautiful mini-cruise that gets you to the USS Constitution, the oldest ship in the US Navy. The shuttle is $2.00 per person, the cheapest harbor cruise you'll ever find. The view is great.

Salem has a witch theme, and gets wild this time of year. I like the Peabody Essex Museum.

Gloucester is a traditional sea-faring town that still has an active fishing fleet. Next door is Rockport, which has a nice arts colony. Both are very scenic.

As to what else, it depends on your interests. There's history, art, sports, nature, science, all kinds of things. The Boston area is one of the cultural gems of this country. Oh, and shopping. That's Newbury Street and Copley Place.
Of course if you are doing Boston make sure you cross the river and do Cambridge, too.

And you are probably looking forward to eating good seafood. Most locals will suggest you do an Italian meal in the North End as well.

But I suggest that you also eat at one of the Portuguese restaurants

(they are clustered in East Cambridge) or a restaurant serving cuisines of Portuguese speaking nations. Every one of them is excellent with comparatively low prices and with exception of the Brazilian barbecue places lengthy wine lists that again are priced incredibly for fine quality eating places. The last time I checked (last week) Restaurant Laura, featuring Cape Verdean cuisine was the only restaurant that participates in the in the national RewardsNetwork and Airline Dining

clubs that has been rated by customers absolutely perfect: rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by everybody so far. (Restaurant Laura is located in the Upham's Corner section of Boston's Dorchester district and yes we have been there and it is great). My hubby and I are going away to Boston area, any ideas? ?
