Check out Golden Gate Park, the Japanese Tea Garden, The DeYoung, The Arboretum, Conservatory of Flowers, you can spend an entire day in the park.

Explore the Embarcadero from the Ferry Building to the Wharf [which is tacky, only for the tourist], have Italian food in North Beach, walk the alleys of China Town, ride a cable car.

Check out these two sites for other ideas

I echo the recommendation of Golden Gate Park as well; to my mind, it's the best park in the country, with far more diversity than, say, New York's Central Park.

To your museum list I would add San Francisco MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) . . . the building itself is a work of art, and you can take in most of the exhibits in a day.

Make sure you hit San Francisco's Chinatown -- it's a cultural experience like no other. Check out the Chinatown Kite Shop -- it's an SF institution, and you'll find some unique items to take home.

But what makes San Francisco MOST unique among American cities is its bay, so be sure to get out on the water. Head down to the Ferry Terminal near the Embarcadero, and buy yourself a passage to wherever your heart desires. The voyage itself will be the attraction!

Enjoy your trip!!

Kango TravelerVisiting San Francisco and we dont know yet what we want to do yet.?
Oh wow, despite the fact San Fran is full of fruit cakes, there are a lot of places to see. Fisherman's Wharf, Gheardelli Square, the Steinhart Aquarium, Japantown, Pier 39. That should suck up 3 days right there.
I think the coolest thing is to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge (or half way across and back). Cross the bridge and park at the visitors center. You can look at the City and bay from there, and start across the bridge. It's a mile across. You will out over the water with ships crossing under you.

Since you've already crossed the Golden Gate, you can continue up to Muir Woods for another walk through the Coastal Redwoods.
Marin county, just over the Golden Gate, is beautiful. Muir woods is one option.

Try to take the Sunday evening Alcatraz tour- it's much more intimate.

Also, North Beach is trendy with great restaurants- try the Stinking Rose.

There are numerous whale watching excursions that can be taken this time of year.

Take her to the Exploratorium if she is interested in the sciences. It's fun and there are hands on displays.

Go to the Cable Car turnaround at Powell and Market St. Catch the Cable Car to Fisherman's Wharf. After visiting Pier 39, hop on the trolley that runs along the Embarcadero and take it to the Ferry Building. (Or you can walk along the waterfront from Pier 39 to the Ferry Building. Ferry building has many nice shops and places to eat.

When you are finished, go west down Market St. and bumm around the Westfield (Nordstrom/ Bloomingdale) mall. They have a food court %26amp; grocery store in lower level.
Hi,

If you and your friends like to walk do the "Gold Coast Trail". It starts at the Old Mint off Market Street and 5th Street. The trail is marked by Medallions that are imbeded in the sidewalk, all you do is follow them. You cross Market and go up Powell Street to Union Square across Union Square and you are on your way. This trail takes you through San Francisco to Chinatown, you'll walk right up to the Fortune Cookie Factory you'll see how they get the Fortunes in the cookies. Next you cross Portsmouth Square through part of the "Sin City" from back in the day and then into North Beach, across Washington Park and up to Coit Tower, make sure you ride the elevator to the top of Coit Tower, you'll get a great view of the City and the Bay, look off to the West and you'll see Lombard Street. Next stop will be down to Pier 39, you're not done, the trail takes you through Fisherman's Wharf and into Aquatic Park, you are close the end, the end is at the Cable Car park. This will take you about three and a half hours, but it's worth it. Next, have a bite to eat around the Wharf if you like seafood this is one of the best areas. Next, hope you have a car, take a drive down Lombard Street, you can get there by bus and walk down, however, to drive down is a treat. Find your way back to the Wharf, if you've not left take the "F" line street car from the Wharf back downtown to Market Street. The "F" line are all old Antique Street Cars, they are rolling museums. Get off the street car at the Embarcadero, at the Hyatt, go inside this is and impressive hotel lobby. Back outside and pay for your ride on the California Street Cable Car. This ride will get you up the hill past Chinatown, get off at the Fairmont Hotel if you guys are hungry, checkout the Tonga Room. In this resteruant in rains all the time. You'll have a good time. Now you are still in the Fairmont. Ask for directions to the outside glass elevator. This is a fun ride to the Crown room, you'll see another part of the City from the top. If you go close to sunset and it's not a foggy day you'll get a gret view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

By now you need a rest...... Next day visit the Golden Gate Bridge. If you drive find your way to one of the parking lots and walk out to the South tower, it should take about 15 minutes, more great views of the Bay, City and Alcatraz. Try and find your way down to Fort Point right below the bridge, it's a Civil War era structure.

Now you are ready for Golden Gate Park. you can get there on 19th ave. It's a bit of a trick to use the drive under tunnel and go south bound off the bridge, you can do it. Stay in the right lane for the way to 19th. You'll get to the park and see the park as you cross Fulton Ave and it's a right curve on the park drive through. Take the next right or the second right and you are in the park. Make sure you bring a map it will help out a lot. If you are ready for lunch or dinner try the end of the park at Ocean Beach and the Beach Challet, great views of the ocean and very good food and drinks. Now you can drive up back through the park to Height/Ashbery, not much left of the old school hippie villege, however, you can still get a feel for the old school place. Find Masonic turn right and head up to twin peaks, this will give you another view of the City and the Bay. For a place to see that will be very colorful try the Castro, from Twin Peaks head down to upper Market Street, turn downhill toward the Bay and before long you'll see the big rainbow flag and you are there. Great places to eat and hang out. For another great place to eat good food that is not expensive try Crapes on Cole. You can fine this place with a map it's on Cloe and Carl streets near the Height.

Enjoy.

Drive up Telegraph Hill via Lombard Street and Telegraph Hill Boulevard.

Cars idle on the slope of Telegraph Hill, stuck in long lines to reach limited parking at the top, where vehicular hostages can finally emerge to ogle Coit Tower and sweep their eyes over a sweet slice of the bay.
