Hey all, taking a trip to SF Valentine's weekend with my hunny who's never been. So far we only have dinner (at Chez Spencer) and an Alcatraz tour (sunday night) planned... i wanted to run my potential itinerary by you all to see if you think there is anythign we need to add/delete from this. also, i'd LOVE to know the good going out spots in the city (i know that North Beach is a great night life area)
a bit about us: we're both 27, he's from Australia, but we're currently in Seattle. We love art, great food, theater, shopping, and going out at night to happenin' spots. We don't want to get stuck in too many tourist traps (fisherman's wharf) but i still want to show hunny what a remarkable city SF is. we'll be using public transportaiton, too, so keep that in mind.
here's our potential itinerary:
Saturday:
Union Square for shopping
explore: Chinatown
Nob Hill
Theater District (buy tix for Sunday night?)
Dinner at Chez Spencer
North Beach for clubs and bars
Sunday:
Ocean Beach
Golden Gate
Fisherman鈥檚 Wharf
Catch the ferry to Alcatraz
Theater? Night on the town? What neighborhood is fun night life?
Monday:
Haight Ashburry district
Golden Gate Park
Museum (MOMA or Asian Museum)
Home
What should i add/delete?
thank you!Weekend trip to San Francisco -- Help!?
Your itinerary looks great with one caveat, most live theaters are dark on Sunday night so you may want to go to North Beach on Sunday rather than Saturday. For cheap theatre tickets visit the Tix booth in Union Square, they sell 1/2 price tickets the day of the show.
Limit your time at Fisherman's Wharf, there is really very little to see and it is basically just a tourist trap.
Haight Ashburry is a dive neighborhood, these days famous only for lots of drugged out street people and punk kids slumming from the burbs. The Mission has a much better vibe and is more fun and funky.
Enjoy!
The only thing that I would mention changing is Monday's plans. Golden Gate Park is huge and you could spend a whole day there.
It all sounds doable otherwise. Have Fun!
Hey, I almost forgot. On weekends there's a Farmers Market at the foot of Market. Also check out the Ferry Building. It's all nice (but not as good as Pikes).
If you are into sports, check out the Sports Basement. They have name brand goods at discount.Weekend trip to San Francisco -- Help!?
Nice Itinerary, on saturday you might want to add a visit to the San Francsico Centre Westfield Mall for shopping. Its just a couple of blocks from union square. Maybe dinner at the house of prime rib on sunday. If you like comedy check out cobbs comedy club in north beach. Charlie Murphy is performing Valentines night. Dont forget a cable car ride. The soul queen Irma Thomas is performing at Yoshis on 2/14 also. Have Fun!

Just a few reality checks:
Exploring Nob Hill basically means climbing up the hill, and perhaps looking at the hotels. The downtown "theater district" is comprised of a few large theaters (Curran, ACT, Marines) and a few smaller ones.
It's better to get your theater tickets on TIX Union Square the day of the performance; and as AJ said, a lot of shows are dark on Sunday nights. They may have matinees, however.
And Fisherman's Wharf can be done in 1/2 hour, since you'll just be looking at tourist shops and restaurants.
Monday sounds the most fun, though I'd recommend the Valencia Street corridor (between about 16th and 25th) as well.
Great itinerary!
If you both love art, I would suggest checking out some of the art galleries around Union Square since you're going to be in the area on Saturday anyways. As for a bar, you might want to check out Vesuvio on Columbus. It's one of the oldest bars in the city!
You're Sunday plans might be impacted by the weather. It is still winter time and San Francisco weather is usually VERY chilly especially by ocean beach and golden gate bridge (plan for the worse, expect the best!)! Dress warm!!!
Your Monday plans sound like it'll be a lot of fun. If you're interested in museums, you might want to check out the California Academy of Sciences while your at golden gate park! The Japanese Tea garden and the botanical garden are great places to just really relax and go for a walk!
To check out more local events I would suggest checking out sfstation.com.
