When you go and visit Alcatraz, do you just go there and roam around? Or do you go and visit some famous places, such as Machine Gun Kelly's jail cell or the jail cell of the Birdman of Alcatraz? Do they have tours that take you to such places? Are these places open to the public? Or are they restricted due to sensitive issues, for example, the family members of these people may not like visitors to go there.
What about the famous escape locations? Can visitors also see them? The Alcatraz tour ?
You can rent an audio tour to listen to as you walk around. There are Rangers in the cell house to show you around and to "lock" you in a cell if you are being bad. At least one the Rangers is a former guard and has some interesting stories.
There are displays outside of Richard Stroud's [Birdman] cell as well as a few other infamous criminals.
The parts of the Island are off limits are due to building decay and erosion rather than any sensitivity about prisoners' families.
