who ever tells me about the boat or the fairy experience will get the best answer....Baltimore Aquarium and the boat trip?
The Baltimore Aquarium is located in the "Inner Harbor" - a downtown district of Baltimore that caters to tourists. That said, the Aquarium is SURROUNDED by dozens of places to eat. They have all the standard chains: Cheesecake Factory, Hard Rock, Johnny Rockets, ESPN Sportzone... but there are also a lot of privately owned places, too. After 5 years in Baltimore, I've tried most of them, and I can't say that any place is better than the other; they're all "pretty good", but none of them "wowed" me.
The Aquarium is set up so that you kinda have to follow the same path as everyone else. You start on the bottom floor and work your way up to the Amazon exhibit, then come back down through the shark tank. I haven't been there since they opened the Australia exhibit, so I'm not sure how that fits into the path.
There is a dolphin show every hour. When you purchase your tickets on site, they assign you to the next available time, which is then printed on your ticket. Not sure how that work if you buy your tix another way. Sometimes you see the dolphins right away, others times it's 2 or 3 hours later; just luck of the draw. Regardless, you're guaranteed to see it.
The "Ferry Boat" you're thnking of is actually a "Water Taxi". The difference is that it's not a round trip, but instead take you to different neighborhoods along the water. I forget exactly how much it costs... it's around $8 per person. That includes unlimited "on and off's" all day. It's very slow; not really worth it.
Other things a family would enjoy...
- the ESPN Zone is a lot of fun, but kinda pricy
- Camden Yards is about 8 block away from the Aquarium. Even if the Orioles aren't playing, they have a baseball musem there that's pretty cool.
- A short drive away from the aquarium is the B%26amp;O Railroad Museum. Surprisingly interesting.
- By the aquarium are two strongly reccomended things for families: The Maryland Science Center (with an IMAX theater) and the "Top of the World" Obervatory. You can see ALL the Baltimore Landmarks from the observatory, and it has labeled photos so you know what you're looking at.
- Fort McHenry is about a 10 minute drive from the Aquarium. Free Admission and a great picnic area... very scenic.
Have Fun!
