Whats the best area to stay in pittsburgh?

let me start by saying that i have never been anywhere in west pennsylvania. i want to go to the Pittsburgh zoo so me and my husband wanted to make a little vacation out of it. can some one give me some suggestions on a section of the city to look for a hotel in. basically i was looking to stay at a hotel that is in a neighborhood that has things in walking distance, that is safe and has close restaurants or eateries. and if anyone has some suggestions on other things to check out while we are there that would be helpful. we are not really interested in sports so any other suggestions would be great.Whats the best area to stay in pittsburgh?
When you are going to pittsburgh, it really depends what you are looking for because it is such a diverse city. I would suggest if you are looking to have a goo time stay somewhere in the southside on east carson street. there is a lot of shopping along the street and at the southside works. at the southside, there are also tons and tons of restaurants and bars.

another option would be in downtown near market square, where there are more upperclass restaurants, but not quite as much shopping. this is a beautiful area to walk around in or just sit outside in the square and relax. staying here you would also be pretty close to the strip district which is very fun during the day and has great nightlife as well. you can walk all around downtown over the bridges and see the rivers and the beautiful views of the city.

one other place i would suggest is shadyside. this is definitely the more upperclass area of pittsburgh with many restaurants and higher class shops.

hope this helps and i hope you enjoy the city!Whats the best area to stay in pittsburgh?
= A lot of it depends on pricing, but if you're willing to pay a little more for the downtown hotels, that's definitely where you should go. From downtown, you can walk to the cultural district, market square, the strip district, the North Shore, and it's just a mile walk to Station Square or a quick cab ride to the South Side. Plus, theres tons of restaurants right downtown. Off the top of my head, there's the Double Tree hotel (with a great restaurant inside of it), the Marriot, and the Omni William Penn (probably pittsburgh's best hotel). Theres also a good hotel, the Sheraton, at Station Square.

If you're looking to avoid the city prices, there are also some hotels in the nearby suburbs. I'd check out the places in Green Tree particularly. It's just 5 minutes outside of town, and it's a nice and quiet suburb.

The major shopping centers also have plenty of hotels. Robinson Town Center is 25 minutes west of pittsburgh and has every store and restaurant chain imaginable. There is also the Homestead Waterfront, about 15 minutes east of town. The Waterfront has a lot of unique shopping and restaurants, as opposed to the more well known chains you might find in Robinson. That might also affect the price though.
